QR Code API Blueprint

A developer-oriented reference for modeling QR assets, dynamic routes, branding, lifecycle, analytics, idempotency, webhooks, permissions, and batch operations.

Resource model

Separate the code from the service around it

A QR image, redirect path, final destination, design preset, campaign, and event have different lifecycles.

▦

Code

The encoded payload plus rendering metadata, format, dimensions, margin, and error correction.

↪

Route

A durable public path with destination, status, ownership, version, and change history.

✦

Design

An approved visual template with validated color, frame, logo, label, and output constraints.

◎

Campaign

A grouping for placement taxonomy, ownership, dates, policy, and reporting dimensions.

⌁

Event

A redirect request, state change, job completion, threshold alert, or audit record.

⚙

Operation

An asynchronous batch, export, archive, or rendering job with explicit status and result.

Illustrative API flow

Create a route, then render the code

The example host is intentionally generic. It demonstrates resource separation rather than a live PopQR endpoint.

Reliability

Make retries and failures predictable

Production integrations need behavior that remains safe under timeouts, duplicates, partial batches, and delayed notifications.

Idempotent writes

Return the original result when a client safely retries the same creation or mutation request.

Structured errors

Provide stable error codes, field paths, request IDs, and explicit retry guidance without leaking secrets.

Async operations

Represent large batches and exports as jobs with status, progress, results, and expiration.

Signed webhooks

Use event IDs, timestamps, replay support, raw-body signatures, and bounded retry behavior.

Security model

Scope every credential

The permission to render a static image should not automatically include control of public redirects or access to granular analytics.

ScopeAllowsShould not allow
codes:writeRender approved static QR assets.Change public routes or read another tenant’s resources.
routes:writeCreate and update managed destinations within policy.Issue credentials, change DNS, or bypass approval controls.
analytics:readRead permitted aggregate campaign reports.Export raw identifiers unless separately authorized.
webhooks:adminManage delivery endpoints and signing secrets.Change routes or campaign content.
Developer checklist

Ship a contract teams can trust

Document lifecycle and edge cases as carefully as the happy path.

OpenAPI contract

Version operations, fields, examples, authentication, error responses, and deprecation behavior.

Tenant isolation

Make ownership explicit and test resource, export, webhook, and analytics boundaries.

Destination policy

Validate schemes, block dangerous inputs, monitor abuse, and preserve administrative review.

Scan QA

Test generated assets on representative cameras and hardware, not only with an image decoder.

Audit history

Record who changed a public route, what changed, and which version was active at a given time.

Migration

Export durable identifiers and preserve public branded paths as implementations evolve.
